About The Position

The Summer Cleaner will have the primary responsibility of supporting the building or department supervisor in ensuring the buildings and grounds are of a quality that will allow our students to learn, grow, and contribute. The Laborer will also have the primary responsibility of being the 'face' of the building/department and ensuring all patrons receive a warm and friendly greeting. Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Working knowledge of practices, tools and materials used in the cleaning, minor maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment.
• Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
• Fingerprint clearance through New York State Office of School Personnel Review and Accountability.
• Proven people skills and is an effective communicator with a sense of humor.
• Willingness to become an active, engaged and visible member of the Pal-Mac community.
• Ability to work collaboratively with other staff members, administrators, students, and parents.
• Use problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

Responsibilities

• Cleaning classrooms, offices, hallways, and all other areas of the building/department.
• Washing walls and windows, vacuuming rugs, sweeping and waxing floors, cleaning bathrooms, cleaning pool/gymnasium area and locker rooms, cleaning cafeteria and kitchen area.
• Performing general clean-up work including collecting garbage, rubbish and recyclables, removing debris, raking leaves, cutting grass and weeds.
• Operating power driven tools and equipment such as saws, compressors, drills, mixers, pumps, and various lawn mowing equipment and trimmers.
• Using hand tools such as shovels, scythes, forks, rakes.
• Performing ground maintenance and beautification work including trimming shrubs, cutting brush, planting and spading flower beds, planting trees.
• Loading and unloading vehicles and trucks.
• Assisting with painting and unskilled carpentry tasks.
• Assisting in performing minor mechanical maintenance or equipment repairs.
• Assisting with the arranging of chairs, tables, and other equipment necessary for special use of the building.
