Summer Camp Swim Instructor
About The Position
Dwight Summer Day Camp is seeking qualified and enthusiastic Swim Instructors to join our Summer 2026 team. Swim Instructors are responsible for providing safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate swim instruction to campers while ensuring a positive and supportive aquatic environment. Swim Instructors are mentors and role models for all Dwight campers. Our Aquatic camp team is responsible for bringing aquatic fun and energy to camp each and every day, while also taking the time to ensure the safety of all campers: managing their behavior, building a platform of trust with each swim group so they maintain a safe environment during swim sessions, and making sure that they are engaged for their lesson times in the pool. Swim Instructors work as part of a team, facilitating engaging swimming lessons with children over the course of the summer.
Requirements
- Current Lifeguard Certification (required)
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification (required)
- Strong communication and classroom management skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with camp staff
- Reliable, responsible, and professional demeanor
- Ability to remain in the pool for extended periods
- Ability to lift and assist children as needed
- Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations
Nice To Haves
- Prior experience teaching swim lessons to children preferred
Responsibilities
- Provide swim instruction to campers of varying ages and skill levels
- Ensure the safety and supervision of all campers during swim activities
- Follow all pool safety rules, emergency procedures, and camp policies
- Create a fun, encouraging, and inclusive learning environment
- Communicate clearly with camp leadership regarding camper progress or concerns
- Assist with pool setup, cleanup, and general organization
- Respond appropriately to emergencies and enforce safety protocols at all times
- Participate in the Aquatics training program for camp, as well as periodic in-camp training throughout the summer.
