About The Position

The Program Assistant is a key support role within the summer program, ensuring smooth daily operations and program continuity. Cross-trained across site responsibilities, the Program Assistant provides operational, instructional, and leadership coverage as needed, including stepping into vacant or absent roles, sometimes across multiple locations. This role partners closely with the Program Manager to support site operations, coach staff, and maintain consistency in program quality and expectations. It is ideal for individuals looking to develop leadership skills and deepen their experience in youth program operations. This position reports to the Program Manager. They will assist the Program Manager with operational oversight pertaining to their assigned location with a focus on coaching and mentoring other site staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or relevant experience.
  • Candidates must be at least 18 years of age
  • A minimum of High school diploma or GED
  • Up to 2 years experience working with groups of kids or supporting youth programs in school, after-school camps, camps, coaching or similar settings
  • Completion or willingness to complete the Instructional Assistant Exam coordinating with academic level required for the position (Will waive requirement with proof of Bachelor’s degree with coursework primarily in English, AA degree or completion of 48 college- level units).
  • Three positive work/character references.
  • Must complete Livescan and TB test.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification is required by the start date. Certification must include an in-person CPR component. If you are not already certified, some compensation will be available.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic technology topics.
  • A large supply of costumes and/or a plethora of skits and songs in your back pocket is a PLUS!
  • Teaching credentials, coursework or units towards credentials are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Program Manager with daily operations and overall site readiness.
  • Assist with scheduling, attendance tracking, transitions, and on-site problem-solving.
  • Provide instructional or leadership coverage during staff absences or vacancies to ensure uninterrupted programming.
  • Support coaching, mentoring, and training of Instructors.
  • Help ensure policies, procedures, and expectations are implemented consistently.
  • Provide responsive, professional customer service to children, staff, and caregivers.
  • Communicate with caregivers as needed regarding student experiences.
  • Model the EDMO Vibe and demonstrate SEL skills including self-awareness, problem-solving, advocacy, collaboration, and empathy.
  • Create and maintain a safe, positive, and engaging environment for children.
  • Work collaboratively and communicate respectfully with team members and supervisors.
  • Demonstrate dependability, punctuality, adaptability, and follow-through.
  • Remain calm and solution-oriented in a fast-paced environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support program success.
  • Ability to hit the ground running and thrive in a short term environment (6 week program).
