About The Position

The Camp Performing Arts Specialist is responsible for planning and leading engaging activities in theater, music, dance, and other performance‑based disciplines for campers of various ages. This role focuses on creating a positive, encouraging, and inclusive environment where campers can explore creativity, build confidence, and develop artistic skills. Responsibilities typically include designing daily lesson plans, teaching fundamental performing arts techniques, directing small performances or showcases, supervising campers during activities, and ensuring safety at all times. The position requires strong communication skills, enthusiasm, flexibility, and the ability to inspire young performers while contributing to overall camp culture and teamwork among staff. The Wakeman Boys & Girls Club is looking for energetic and responsible employees who have a passion for working with children to join our organization in our Summer Day Camp. The Summer Camp Specialist is responsible for developing a curriculum for 9 weeks for groups ranging from K-8th grade. A specialist will be in one program area: art, gym. Outdoor sports, game room, learning center, or studio. Our Summer Day Camp hours for staff are 8:30am-4:00pm.

Requirements

  • Boys & Girls Club or youth organization experience preferred.
  • Experience working with youth grades K-8th.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior.
  • Knowledge of youth development strategies.
  • Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth.
  • Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.
  • Ability to work with youth and families from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, plan, and facilitate program specific activities.
  • Showcase Production: Direct, organize, and, manage, a, final, performance, or, play, for, parents and staff.
  • Curriculum Planning & Implementation: Develop and teach engaging, 40-60 minute, daily, workshops, or rehearsals, for drama, music, or dance, programs
  • Provide supervision, guidance, and act as role models to club members.
  • Monitor programs, services and activities to ensure the safety of all members.
  • Flexibility when changes need to be made and dealing with a variety of situations.
  • Helping maintain cleanliness and order of classrooms and the building.
  • Attend staff meetings and follow procedures.
  • Develop relationships with members to ensure trust and confidence in them, to recruit them to participate in programs and increase membership participation.
  • Staff must wear proper uniform including Wakeman Staff shirt, walkie and name tag.
  • This position requires standing for long periods of time.
  • This position may require lifting items up to 50lbs.
  • Ensure a team-based work environment by communicating effectively and positively with supervisors, co-workers, volunteers and other community partners.
  • Make recommendations regarding member's needs, program ideas, and facility needs.
  • May be asked to participate in special programs and or events. These events may be scheduled at times when the Club is not open.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Directors.
