About The Position

At Bach to Rock, we make learning music fun! The Summer Camp Instructor works part time providing music instruction to students on a variety of instruments. You will provide band coaching to small rock / pop ensembles for the purposes of live performance and recordings. You may also be asked to provide music school administrative support, as needed. All lessons are at our Wellesley location. We provide the instruments and curriculum. You just need to show up and teach.

• Teaching certificate and or degrees in music preferred; those who are currently enrolled in a music degree program will also be considered
• Experience in the subject area may be substituted for degree or licensure
• Must demonstrate an understanding of music concepts and be able to communicate those concepts to in a developmentally and age appropriate manner to infants, toddlers, and preschoolers
• Must play a musical instrument, multi-instrumentalists are strongly preferred
• Must demonstrate the ability to run basic sound equipment
• Must be able to receive constructive feedback on teaching techniques and apply the feedback to new teaching situations and environments
• Must be able to be physically present at B2R for scheduled lessons and administrative responsibilities
• Advanced knowledge of music theory and technique relevant to primary instruments
• Effective time management and organizational skills
• Ability to operate basic office equipment, i.e. telephones, photocopiers and computers
• Ability to interact effectively with the public
• Ability to work effectively with B2R staff and management
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment
• Ability to adapt to change in the workplace
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English, additional languages are desirable
• Ability to use all relevant computer software (Microsoft Office, etc) proficiently, and the ability to learn to use B2R ’ s specialized systems
• Ability to pass a background check
• Ability to work during the company’s normal business hours that includes weekends and evenings
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, travel up and down stairs, crouch, stoop and reach
• Ability to lift and move the equipment typically associated with B2R ’ s day-to-day operation, e.g., amplifiers, keyboards, recording equipment, light furniture, etc.

Responsibilities

• Provides instruction to music students in a group lesson format using a proprietary curriculum and specific methodology and arrangements created for Bach to Rock Music Schools
• Instructs students in techniques needed to play in small groups
• Directs small groups in playing, performing and recording original and cover songs
• Moves, sets up and breaks down equipment at the school and school events
• Performs a variety of the school maintenance functions (hang posters and frames on walls, install static clings on windows, etc.) when needed
• Assists with moving furniture, equipment and materials
• Assists in basic repair of minor site equipment and instruments
• Other duties may be assigned.
