About The Position

The Summer Camp Mountain Bike Leader is responsible for overseeing mountain bike course activities and ensuring the safety of all campers. This role involves supervising the use of mountain bikes and pedal carts, maintaining equipment, and implementing a weekly program schedule for campers, including those with special needs. The position requires effective communication with campers and their guardians, as well as participation in pre-season training and end-of-season clean-up.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or a graduate of high school.
  • High school diploma is required.
  • Experience in childcare is required.
  • At least one semester of college is desired.
  • Experience performing basic bicycle maintenance is desired.
  • Must be willing to adapt to new experiences.
  • Must be able to maintain high professional standards of Conner Prairie.
  • Must have a fun, friendly, and patient personality.

Responsibilities

  • Implement an approved, weekly program schedule for assigned campers.
  • Assist all campers with special needs as outlined by the American Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Ensure mountain bikes, pedal carts, and related equipment are safe, secure, and maintained.
  • Perform both preventative and reactive maintenance on mountain bikes and pedal carts.
  • Coordinate necessary track maintenance with the Camp Director.
  • Educate campers and counselors on appropriate safety precautions and procedures for using mountain bikes and pedal carts.
  • Perform camp counselor functions as needed.
  • Assist with camp support activities to ensure program operation, including camper drop-off and pick-up.
  • Check and maintain camp facilities, equipment, and personal first aid kit, communicating supply needs to the Camp Director.
  • Communicate with campers' parents/guardians in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Respond to any medical/emergency needs of campers and staff.
  • Participate in pre-season trainings and help with end-of-season clean-up.
