About The Position

The Salvation Army Northwoods Camp in Finlayson, MN, is "doing the most good" by providing summer camp opportunities to hundreds of youth from Salvation Army programs across Minnesota and North Dakota. The camp offers youth a safe, fun environment to develop physically, socially, and spiritually while participating in various activities, including swimming, fishing, boating, archery, music, and arts and crafts. The Summer Camp Healthcare Manager ensures the health and safety of campers (ages 6 to 17) and staff by providing medical care, managing health resources, maintaining records, and overseeing First Aid. The role includes conducting camper screenings, supervising sanitation, training staff on safety, and actively participating in camp activities. The position requires on-site residence throughout the temporary summer employment.

Requirements

  • CPR, AED, and Standard First Aid certifications are required.
  • Must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and be willing to participate in religious activities.
  • Must pass background checks.
  • Flexible interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Self-starter with good attention to detail and initiative.
  • Works with integrity, valuing honesty and diligence.
  • Must be able to attend staff orientation week.
  • Room and Board provided in addition to a biweekly stipend. Required to live on-site at Northwoods camp during the summer.
  • Must be onsite at Northwoods Camp whenever campers are present. Be available 24 hours per day for emergencies.
  • Position is seasonal, approximately mid-June through July, including nights and weekends.
  • Perform all physical aspects of the position, including being mobile, bending, and reaching.
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Must be able to fully participate in activities and events (outdoors and indoors).
  • Camp environment; not eligible for a remote-friendly work environment.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly with campers and colleagues.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the healthcare field is highly preferred. A healthcare degree, such as a Minnesota-licensed RN, paramedic, CNA, or PCA, is also preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Healthcare (20%): Administer health care to meet the individual needs of campers and staff, consulting with a licensed medical professional as needed.
  • Program Participation (10%): Support and participate in all assigned camp programs and activities, including spiritual components.
  • Health Resource Management (10%): Organize, maintain, and utilize resources to address health and medical needs, including inventory management, order requests, and restocking supplies.
  • Medical Record Keeping (10%): Maintain accurate and detailed medical records for campers and staff.
  • First Aid Oversight (10%): Oversee First Aid procedures, ensuring adequate supplies are available and maintained.
  • Camper Health Screenings (10%): Conduct health screenings for all campers upon arrival.
  • Staff Training (5%): Provide staff training on health, safety, and emergency procedures.
  • Sanitation Supervision (10%): Supervise and enforce sanitary conditions throughout the camp to ensure the health and safety of participants.
  • Relationship Building (5%): Develop and maintain positive rapport with campers and colleagues, teaching and modeling positive relational skills to campers.
