About The Position

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is excited to welcome Summer Camp Counselors to the team at Revolution Park Sports Academy. These temporary, 40-hour per week positions will assist with the operations of summer day camps for youth and/or teens. They will provide direct supervision of campers and assist in planning and directing camp activities such as arts and crafts, athletics, games, aquatics, field trips, etc. In addition, the incumbents may also participate in membership promotions, communicate facility policies to patrons and overall customer service management of the facility. The dates of this temporary employment opportunity will include mandatory orientation and staff training. Specific dates will be discussed during the interview process, and the selected candidates will be expected to work 40 hours per week during the summer.

Requirements

• No experience required.
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License and County Driving Privileges
• CPR/First Aid
• General knowledge of various computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite
• Recreational programming and instruction
• Applying classroom knowledge through hands-on activities
• Developing and enforcing classroom rules and safety procedure
• Managing multiple tasks concurrently
• Organizing and presenting demonstrations in area of specialization.
• Adaptability: Maintaining effectiveness when experiencing major changes in work responsibilities or environment; adjusting effectively to work within new work structures, processes, requirements, or cultures

Responsibilities

• Provide customer service and communicate clearly with staff, supervisors, and parents
• Ensure safety of participants/spectators and administer first aid when necessary
• Enforce rules and regulations
• Lead recreational activities
• Assist in light maintenance of facilities and recreational areas
• Maintain constant supervision of campers
• Assist with various recreation programs for all ages
• Handle inquiries and complaints from the public
• Assist with youth activities and field trips
