We are looking for a Summer Camp Counselors to join our team at the Y! We spend our days positively impacting the summer camp community around us. We help children reach their potential, enact age appropriate goals, and we change lives in our Y community. We are hiring for our younger campers ages 3 to 5. Our camp runs from 7am-6pm. POSITION SUMMARY: Provides direct supervision of a group of children in a seasonal day camp. Provides a quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
Requirements
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- Experience working with children.
- Certifications: Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross CPR/AED, and First Aid.
- Completion of required trainings.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
Responsibilities
- Supervises a group of children and possess ever present knowledge of whereabouts and safety of each child in assigned group.
- Implements and follows program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate, and consistent with YMCA values.
- Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
- Attends staff meetings and trainings.
- Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
- Completes accident/incident reports as necessary.
- Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
- Reinforce children’s actions in a positive manner to promote safety and health self-images.
- Builds effective, authentic relationships with campers and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA.
- Works in cooperation with other staff as a member of the YMCA team.
- Maintains a professional attitude and appearance at all times.
- Any other duties deemed necessary to ensure the success of the Community YMCA of Eastern Delaware County.
