About The Position

Under the supervision of the Summer Camp Manager, the Camp Counselor will serve as the primary caregiver for Campers. Responsibilities include planning, coordinating, and carrying out activities for each cabin group and guiding Campers in their personal growth and daily living skills. The major responsibilities of this position include the following but are not limited to: Pathfinder Ranch was founded in 1964 to provide an escape from the desert summer heat for the children of Palm Springs. We have since grown to provide Camp, Outdoor Education, and Retreat programs – all while staying true to our mission to connect people to nature and each other. Requirements

18 years of age or older
Sincere interest and ability to work with children in the outdoors
Exhibit the ability to work well within the Pathfinder Ranch organization and with other employees
Willing and able to complete tasks both independently and collaboratively in a timely and accurate manner
Able to communicate effectively
Hold and maintain the following certifications issued by the American Red Cross or American Heart Association: First Aid, Adult & Child CPR (alternative nationally recognized provider may be accepted if at least 50% of the course is conducted in-person with a practical skills session).
Complete tasks both independently and collaboratively in a timely and accurate manner
Communicate and coordinate with participant parents/guardians/group liaisons
Must be able to lift and carry 30 lbs.
Ability to work a varied shift schedule in excess of 10 hours per day
Ability to traverse several miles per day on steep and uneven terrain in a variety of weather conditions

Responsibilities

Supervise Campers during scheduled times (includes meals and evenings)
Guide Campers in life skills such as independence and communication amongst peers
Create a safe, fun, and appropriate environment for all Campers
Collaborate with fellow Camp Counselors, Program Assistants and Camp Leaders in program planning.
Implement appropriate behavior management techniques
Follow and uphold all policies and procedures of Pathfinder Ranch
Assist with facilitating programs such as climbing, horseback riding, archery, team challenge, hiking, canoeing, arts and crafts, etc.
Communicate daily with leadership
Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities and planning
Assist in program areas as needed
Encourage Campers to participate and try new activities
Document program records, logs, and reports accurately
Ensure the security and safety of camp facilities, grounds, and equipment
Inventory and recommend equipment acquisitions as needed
Provide positive public relations on behalf of Pathfinder Ranch and serve as the liaison between the Ranch and client groups
Communicate and coordinate with Camper parents/guardians
Comply with Health and Fire Department regulations, organizational policies and accreditation standards
Other duties as assigned
