Summer Camp Counselor

YMCA of the Black HillsRapid City, SD

About The Position

Looking for a summer job that's actually fun and meaningful? The YMCA of the Black Hills is hiring Summer Camp Counselors beginning in May to help create an unforgettable summer for kids - and for you! This is more than your typical summer job. It's a chance to inspire young minds, build confidence, and help kids discover what they're capable of, all while having a whole lot of fun along the way. As a Camp Counselor, you'll help bring camp days to life. Picture leading outdoor games under the Black Hills sky, creating art projects that spark creativity, guiding team-building challenges, and supporting academic enrichment activities that encourage curiosity and problem-solving. Working under the guidance of our Youth Development Associate Director, you'll deliver age-appropriate programming that helps campers grow socially, physically, and emotionally in a safe, supportive, and engaging environment. At the Y, we believe camp is about fun AND growth. You'll play a key role in helping campers build essential soft skills like teamwork, communication, creativity, and confidence, while also modeling strong character and positive behavior. You'll also help ensure the well-being of every camper by following safety guidelines, maintaining program spaces and equipment, and building positive relationships with campers, parents, and fellow counselors. From keeping attendance and lesson plans organized to participating in team meetings, you'll be an important part of creating a high-quality camp experience that runs smoothly and safely. We're looking for people who love working with kids, communicate well, and show up with energy and a positive attitude. Previous experience in childcare, education, or leadership is helpful but not required-we're happy to train individuals who are excited to learn, grow, and make a difference. The YMCA of the Black Hills offers a supportive, mission-driven environment where you'll gain leadership skills, grow professionally, and make a meaningful impact in your community. You'll leave the summer with new friendships, valuable experience, and the satisfaction of knowing you helped make a child's summer truly special. If you're passionate, motivated, and ready to be part of a transformative summer experience, we encourage you to apply today and join us in building a stronger community-one camper at a time.
