Camp Christopher - Summer Camp Counselor, Special Needs- Paid Internship
About The Position
Paid Summer Internship. Full-time starting at the end of May through the middle of August. Camp Christopher is looking for enthusiastic, passionate, and hardworking summer interns to work with our day camp for children with developmental disabilities. Interns will provide a safe, fun, and quality camping experience for assigned groups of campers with disabilities. Staff and interns will implement daily program activities, identify and respond to campers' needs, and maintain health and safety standards. Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Intern will abide by the contractual agreement between Catholic Charities and the higher education program.
- Ability to work outdoors, which requires frequent walking, standing, and movement throughout the campsite.
- Full-time; Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.
Nice To Haves
- Prefer students pursuing a degree in special education, physical/ occupational therapy, social work, or a related field.
- Prefer applicants with experience working with people with developmental disabilities.
Responsibilities
- Assist with and supervise campers during all camp activities (ex. crafts, cooking, hiking, archery, horseback-riding, games, swimming/boating).
- Interact with campers throughout the day, helping them make friends, try new things, and generally caring for their well-being.
- Oversee and assist with campers' safety and personal care needs.
- Work with a team of counselors and program managers to implement outdoor recreation activities to develop physical, social, and emotional skills.
- Gain hands-on leadership skills while positively influencing the youth.
