About The Position

The Standards Management Team is part of the Security Governance & Risk (SG&R) Division of NFCU's Security Department. This team focuses on managing NFCU Information Security Documents (Policies, Instructions, Standards, and Procedures) to ensure the security and confidentiality of member and employee information. The team collaborates with various business units to improve NFCU's security posture. The Summer Associate Program is a 12-week internship starting in May 2026, where students will work on impactful projects and gain meaningful experience.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Anticipated graduation date of December 2026 or later.
  • Total professional and educational experience of 4+ years, with at least 1+ year in Information Technology/Security.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Self-starter and self-directed.
  • Understanding of general Information Technology concepts.
  • Experience with business process definition and optimization.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in creating reports and analyses.
  • High level proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Advanced verbal, written, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with staff, management, stakeholders, and vendors.
  • Advanced organizational, planning, and time management skills.
  • Ability to influence, negotiate, and persuade for positive outcomes.
  • Curiosity and eagerness to learn new technologies and security practices.

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework, projects, or work experience related to security risk and controls management or cybersecurity frameworks (e.g., NIST, FedRAMP, PCI DSS, HIPAA, ISO).
  • Knowledge of Federal banking safety and soundness regulations and familiarity with examination approaches from regulatory bodies (e.g., FFIEC, NCUA, OCC, FHFA, CFPB).
  • Knowledge of industry-leading risk and security program management frameworks (e.g., COSO, COBIT, NIST CSF, ITIL).
  • Knowledge of data protection and privacy frameworks (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, NIST Privacy Framework).
  • Experience in developing and implementing security risks and controls management frameworks.
  • Experience with information technology systems, project processes, and application development (e.g., SharePoint Online).

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate various industry frameworks to enhance Standards and identify opportunities for continuous security improvements.
  • Communicate proposed updates to stakeholders across NFCU to ensure alignment with operational practices.
  • Research and recommend security controls tailored to NFCU's needs.
  • Support migration between old and new technology platforms, such as SharePoint Online.
  • Assist with documentation management while maintaining confidentiality and accessibility.
  • Contribute to short and long-term strategic planning for team initiatives.
  • Research emerging technologies and risks, developing potential solutions and recommendations.
