About The Position

Five Star Bank’s Summer Associate Program is designed to develop the next generation of financial services professionals to help us advance our vision of being an independent, high-performing community bank. Our GRC Program offers hands-on experience across several dynamic areas including Compliance, Risk, BSA/AML and Fraud. This internship provides a valuable opportunity to gain exposure to risk management frameworks, compliance monitoring, and governance processes within a community bank environment.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Criminal Justice, Information Security, Cybersecurity, Law or a related field.
  • Available to work a hybrid work model, 40 hours per week for the duration of the program starting in June.
  • Occasional travel within corporate footprint (Buffalo and Rochester) will be required.
  • At least 1 year in one or more club(s), volunteerism efforts, or other activities outside of the classroom.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Interest in governance, risk management, compliance, or regulatory affairs.
  • Self-starter with a collaborative mindset and attention to detail.
  • Curiosity, initiative, and a desire to learn in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in monitoring adherence to regulatory requirements and internal policies in Compliance.
  • Support audit preparation and documentation in Compliance.
  • Help implement procedures that promote ethical conduct and operational integrity in Compliance.
  • Support the identification, assessment, and monitoring of financial, operational, and regulatory risks in Enterprise Risk.
  • Assist with data analysis, third-party risk reviews, and reporting to strengthen internal controls in Enterprise Risk.
  • Monitor financial transactions for suspicious activity in BSA/AML.
  • Support the preparation of reports such as SARs and CTRs in BSA/AML.
  • Help ensure adherence to anti-money laundering regulations and internal controls in BSA/AML.
  • Assist in detecting and investigating suspicious transactions in Fraud.
  • Support the implementation of fraud prevention strategies in Fraud.
  • Help maintain accurate records to safeguard customer assets and uphold regulatory compliance in Fraud.
