About The Position

STV is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Structural Engineering (Water/Wastewater) Intern to join our Water/Wastewater team. This internship offers an opportunity for undergraduate and graduate-level students to work alongside experienced structural engineers and contribute to the planning, design, and delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure projects. Interns will gain hands-on exposure to structural engineering practices while supporting high-quality projects throughout various phases of design and construction.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in structural engineering within the water and wastewater industry.
  • Familiarity with structural analysis or design software is a plus (e.g., finite element modeling tools, Autodesk platforms).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with structural design and analysis tasks for water and wastewater facilities under the guidance of licensed engineers.
  • Support the development of structural plans, layouts, and design concepts.
  • Help prepare drawings, sketches, and calculations for incorporation into construction documents.
  • Conduct research on design options, codes, and standards applicable to water and wastewater structures.
  • Assist with basic calculations such as structure heights and weights, concrete quantities, and equipment fit-up.
  • Support cost estimating efforts, including quantity take-offs and gathering vendor information.
  • Review shop drawings and technical submittals with oversight from senior staff.
  • Participate in project meetings and collaborate with multidisciplinary team members.
  • Assist with field observations and documentation of existing conditions or construction progress, as needed.
  • Use computer-assisted engineering and design software to support project documentation and analysis.
