About The Position

The Museum Education internship is designed for a commitment of 18-25 hours per week for a minimum of 12 weeks. The goal is this internship is to provide interdisciplinary Museum-led educational programs and experiences in the Nashville community while gaining greater understanding of the museum education field. Community Programs, a subset of the larger Family and Community Programs team, aims to bring the museum into the broader Nashville community by engaging with families and individuals through hands-on music and art-making programs. Programs occur off-site in the community at festivals, libraries, community centers, and other locations. All sites are within Nashville-Davidson and bordering counties. The Museum Education intern will receive hands-on training from Museum educators, and they will interact directly with diverse family audiences. The intern will assist with program delivery and facilitation, support program preparations, facilitate administrative tasks, support evaluation and assessment, attend team meetings, and research and develop resources to support programming. The intern will also have the opportunity to engage with on-site youth and family programs, as needed.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled, credit-seeking, and/or degree-seeking undergraduate or graduate student
  • Be available to work 18-25 hours per week, flexible between Wednesday-Saturday 9:30 AM – 4:30 PM
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive in and around Nashville for community outreach programs
  • Lift 25 lbs. or less

Nice To Haves

  • Interest in museum education, music, American history, and youth-focused program development
  • Ability to play one or more instrument
  • Experience or course work in education, history, and/or the fine arts
  • Knowledge of country music, or willingness to learn
  • Experience working with children and/or teaching
  • Ability to multitask and solve problems
  • Comfortability working with individuals and families from diverse backgrounds

Responsibilities

  • Support community outreach programs in off-site settings like libraries, parks, and festivals
  • Assist in administrative tasks related to community outreach programming, including data recording, inventory of supplies, and more
  • Set specific, personal goals and work with the Community Outreach Manager to achieve them
  • Develop and practice interdepartmental communication skills and general professionalism
  • Perform administrative tasks, as needed
