About The Position

Economic & Planning Systems, Inc. (EPS) is an innovative economics land use consulting firm, distinct in our ability to analyze and creatively resolve complex challenges related to land use policy, urban planning, real estate investment, and public financing. Since 1983, we have served a wide variety of private- and public-sector clients throughout the United States with an emphasis on forward-thinking land use planning, economic sustainability, and urban resiliency. Our goal is to develop well-rounded consultants, experienced in the full range of services offered by EPS. We are passionate about our work and committed to our clients. We also invest in our staff through on-the-job training, a monthly “lunch-and-learn” training series, and staff retreats. The Internship Position EPS has internship positions available for Summer 2026. Internships will be in-person at an EPS office location in Sacramento or Oakland, California, or in Denver, Colorado. Interns at EPS will work under the direction of project managers and may assist in research and analyses related to real estate feasibility, fiscal and economic impact analysis, public finance, land use policy, revitalization/ redevelopment, and regional economics. The internship is a paid position, and interns will work approximately 24 hours per week. Interns are eligible for paid sick leave but are not eligible for other employee benefits, except as mandated by applicable law. EPS summer internship opportunities aim to expand representation within the economic land use field by creating meaningful opportunities for students across all backgrounds. This includes, but is not limited to, students who identify as Black, Indigenous, or People of Color (BIPOC); veterans; individuals with disabilities; and students who are the first in their families to attend college. You are a current upper division undergraduate student or graduate student looking for an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in land economics, public finance, city and regional planning, public policy, or similar field. You are interested in the interplay between economics and public policy in the development of urban systems and are passionate about work that results in strategies to promote great and sustainable places. You want to use quantitative research and analysis to help communities expand in an equitable and sustainable way, by planning for healthy, diverse neighborhoods, balanced economic growth, affordable housing, enhanced transit and public services, new parks and open spaces, and innovative land use investments.

Requirements

  • Current upper division undergraduate or graduate student
  • Pursuing BS/BA or MS/MA in economics, urban planning, public policy, business, or similar field
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong analytical, writing, and communication skills
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States
