About The Position

Join Alcon's Global R&D Microbiology team as a Microbiology Intern, where you'll contribute to cutting-edge research supporting the development of the Systane Family of dry eye products and contact lenses. This internship offers a unique opportunity to apply microbiological principles to real-world product innovation, helping ensure the safety, efficacy, and differentiation of Alcon's vision-enhancing technologies.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited university or college for at least one semester prior to internship or co-op, and at least one additional semester following internship or co-op.
  • Must be pursuing a PhD in Microbiology, Biology, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field.
  • Academic performance: Minimum cumulative GPA 3.0/4.0.
  • Demonstrated research experience in microbiology or related laboratory techniques.
  • Must be authorized to work in the US on a permanent basis without requiring sponsorship (students on an F1 visa with CPT can be accommodated).
  • Ability to commit to a full-time (40 hrs/week) internship position.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing and implementing microbial model systems.
  • Familiarity with aseptic techniques, microbial culturing, and molecular biology tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Passion for translational research and product development in the life sciences.
  • Exposure to ophthalmic or pharmaceutical R&D environments is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct laboratory experiments to evaluate microbial interactions with ophthalmic products.
  • Design and optimize microbial model systems to simulate ocular environments.
  • Analyze experimental outcomes and provide technical feedback to fellow scientists.
  • Support product development initiatives by generating data that informs formulation and regulatory strategy.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including formulation scientists, toxicologists, and regulatory experts.
  • Document experimental procedures and results in accordance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
  • Participate in team meetings and research discussions.
