About The Position

As we help clear the path to a greener future, we need to ensure our people continue to power our progress. The world of energy is changing faster than ever! Our Gridtern Program provides current college students the ability to gain practical experience within the energy industry. Your summer will begin on Monday, June 15, 2026, and will be filled with meaningful work experiences, professional development, networking opportunities, community involvement, and most importantly, have fun! Our Safety Policies & Programs team develops and governs the standards, procedures, and tools that ensure our employees and contractors work safely each and every day. This team provides oversight, data insights, and assurance mechanisms that enhance hazard awareness, reduce risk, and strengthen compliance across our U.S. operations. They partner closely with operational functions, Procurement, Learning & Development, and leadership to embed safety into daily decision-making and long-term planning. Through policy development, performance reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives, this team support National Grid’s mission to deliver safe, reliable energy to the communities we serve while providing consistent safety practices and high-quality assurance across the organization. As a Gridtern, you will support two priority initiatives within the Safety Policies & Programs team: Procurement Efficiencies for the Safety PPE Catalog (Ariba) and the development of a Safety Assurance Dashboard aligned with Archer O4 personal safety risk. For the PPE catalog work, you will partner with Procurement and Safety subject-matter experts to streamline the catalog structure, improve the user experience, and help produce supporting documentation, recommendations, and workflow changes that boost ordering efficiency and safety alignment. For the dashboard, you will assist in building a comprehensive assurance tool that visualizes how safety controls and activities mitigate O4 personal safety risk, creating visualizations and narrative elements that show assurance strength, gaps, and performance trends. You will be based in Northborough, MA working in a Hybrid format for the summer. You must reside within a commutable distance to the designated work location during this period.
