About The Position

2026 Summer Intern - Bingol Lab, Neuroscience Department Summary An internship position is available for a highly motivated and independent scientist to join the laboratory of Baris Bingol in the Department of Neuroscience at Genentech. The Bingol lab investigates the molecular mechanisms of neurodegeneration, with a particular focus on neuronal and glial proteostasis. This position will center on elucidating the molecular mechanisms of lysosomal and mitochondrial quality control in the context of neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s Disease, Parkinson’s Disease, and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. This internship position is located in South San Francisco, on-site. Program Highlights Intensive 12-weeks full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship. Program start dates are in January (Spring) / May /June (Summer). A stipend will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship. Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects. Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry. Who You Are Required Education: Must be pursuing a PhD degree (enrolled student). Required Majors: Neuroscience or a related field.

Requirements

  • Must be pursuing a PhD degree (enrolled student)
  • Neuroscience or a related field
  • Experience in molecular and cellular neuroscience with hands-on expertise on primary neuronal cultures, iPSC-derived neuronal and glial models, and proficient in biochemistry, imaging, or omics technologies
  • Hands-on experience with iPSC-based cultures of CNS cell types, primary rodent cultures, and genetic perturbation methods
  • Deep understanding of molecular mechanisms relevant to neurodegeneration, particularly mitochondrial or lysosomal pathways
  • An independent and resilient scientist with a strong intrinsic drive who excels in a fast-paced
