About The Position

As a Global Public Policy Fellow, you will play an important role on Walmart’s Global Public Policy (GPP) Team. Your responsibilities include conducting research, performing policy analysis, providing strategic recommendations, and coordinating logistics. Walmart’s GPP team, located in Bentonville, AR, and Washington, DC, is responsible for identifying risks and opportunities within the public policy arena. The team’s objectives are to maintain and expand the company’s license to operate, create opportunities for our 2.1 million associates, serve millions of customers worldwide, build shared value in the communities we serve, and protect and enhance Walmart’s reputation. The GPP Team serves as the central hub for policy development and coordination for both the Global Public Policy & Government Affairs Team and the State & Local Government Relations Team. The Global Public Policy Summer Fellowship is a 10-week immersive experience designed to provide hands-on exposure to public policy, policy research, policy development and corporate government relations. Fellows will contribute to real-time policy work while gaining access to senior leaders, industry stakeholders, and professional development opportunities across Walmart’s government affairs network. This Fellowship begins on Tuesday, May 26th, 2026, and ends on Friday, August 7th, 2026. Location: These positions will be fully onsite in Washington, D.C. Relocation support will not be provided.

Requirements

  • You are currently pursuing a graduate/masters level degree
  • You have relevant globally oriented work experience in business or international relations for private sector, government, NGOs, trade associations, or similar
  • You have experience cultivating and managing stakeholder relationships with trust and integrity
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to synthesize complex information clearly
  • Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills and interest in networking and relationship-building
  • You are proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • A successful candidate will not require sponsorship now or in the future.

Responsibilities

  • Policy Research: Collect data, map stakeholders, and conduct comparative analyses to better understand how various policies impact Walmart and its stakeholders. Research and analyze legislation, regulatory proposals, and international agreements that affect Walmart at the local, state, federal, and international levels. Prepare policy memos, talking points, briefing materials, presentations, and communications for Walmart’s government affairs teams.
  • Policy Analysis: Monitor developments within a specific policy portfolio and assist Policy Directors by tracking, reporting, and coordinating efforts across teams. Identify potential policy options, draft decision memos, and coordinate complex, time-sensitive deliverables and programs. Develop advocacy strategies and campaigns for all levels of government.
  • Projects & Strategic Support: Drive process innovation: Assist the GPP team in reviewing current procedures to identify opportunities for improvement and streamline workflows. Engage in cross-functional collaboration: Work closely with internal teams to ensure effective coordination of government affairs initiatives. Offer logistical and administrative support: Handle scheduling, prepare materials, and coordinate events to facilitate smooth operations.
