What it’s Like The AI Governance & Operations Intern will support T-Mobile’s Responsible AI and Governance initiatives by helping design, document, and operationalize processes that ensure AI systems are built and deployed responsibly. This role sits at the intersection of AI strategy, risk management, and operations, providing the intern with exposure to how AI governance is scaled across a large enterprise. Working closely with the AI Governance & Operations team, the intern will contribute to projects that enhance oversight, transparency, and accountability for AI systems. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented problem-solver who is curious about the intersection of technology, strategy, and policy, and is eager to learn how governance frameworks translate into real-world business operations. This internship offers hands-on experience in AI governance program management, policy implementation, and cross-functional collaboration across technology, legal, privacy, and data science teams. What You’ll Do As an AI Governance & Operations Intern, you’ll help strengthen T-Mobile’s Responsible AI program and support operational excellence across the broader Data & AI organization. Over the summer, you’ll work on projects that bring structure and transparency to how AI models are governed—helping design workflows, document policies, and contribute to dashboards that track compliance and risk. You’ll also assist with Data & AI team operations, such as process improvements, stakeholder coordination, and performance reporting. Collaborating with teams across AI Strategy, Engineering, Legal, and Data Science, you’ll gain hands-on experience in how enterprise AI is managed responsibly and efficiently at scale.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate student pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Public Policy, Cognitive Science, Business Administration, or related fields.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills with an ability to manage details across multiple workstreams.
  • Interest in AI ethics, responsible AI, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially when distilling technical or policy topics for diverse audiences.
  • Self-starter mindset — curious, collaborative, and eager to learn from cross-functional experts.
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Candidates must be currently enrolled in a degree program and have at least one semester remaining following the internship
  • Employees of T-Mobile or Metro by T-Mobile are ineligible for internships
  • Employer does not sponsor work visas for this position. Note that this also applies to individuals who are students in F-1 status who desire sponsorship after they complete their education.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and implementation of AI governance processes, such as model inventory tracking, documentation standards, and responsible AI assessments.
  • Help maintain dashboards and reporting mechanisms that monitor AI model compliance, risk indicators, and ethical review workflows.
  • Research and summarize emerging AI regulations (e.g., EU AI Act, NIST AI Risk Management Framework) and identify implications for T-Mobile’s AI practices.
  • Assist in process documentation, ensuring operational clarity and version control for governance procedures.
  • Participate in meetings across AI Strategy, Legal, Compliance, and Engineering, helping ensure that governance decisions are communicated and tracked effectively.
  • Contribute to executive presentations and communications that summarize program progress and highlight governance maturity metrics.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives for AI operations — simplifying workflows, surfacing insights, and aligning governance to strategic AI priorities.

Benefits

  • Relocation may be provided to program participants who reside more than 50 miles from the internship location.
  • Intern wages range from $20/hour to $40/hour.
