About The Position

The Research Department of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond is looking for highly motivated students in Economics, Mathematics, Statistics or related disciplines to assist research economists with policy-oriented and academic research in a paid internship during the summer of 2026. We are looking for candidates with diverse backgrounds, interests, and perspectives. We provide interns with many opportunities to learn in their daily work interactions with economists and RAs, as well as through seminars, lectures, and RA-led study groups. We provide a friendly and academically-oriented environment where interns can learn about academic research careers and the Fed.

Requirements

  • Must be a student in Economics, Mathematics, Statistics or related disciplines
  • Submit a resume or CV
  • Provide college transcripts (unofficial copies are acceptable)
  • Include a cover letter stating why they are a good match for the job and their interest in research

Responsibilities

  • Conduct literature reviews
  • Write computer code to analyze time-series and panel data
  • Collaborate with a Research Associate (RA) who mentors them throughout the summer
  • Give a presentation at the end of their stay on an academic article they studied or the data they helped analyze
