About The Position

The R&D Software Engineer Intern at Alcon will support the Software Engineering Team in developing and documenting complex software applications for ophthalmic surgical medical devices. This role involves working on software that integrates with cloud-based platforms and participating in all phases of the software lifecycle, from concept development to testing. The intern will also gain insights into the anatomy and physiology of the eye, contributing to meaningful work in eye care.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited university or college for at least one semester prior to internship or co-op, and at least one additional semester following internship or co-op.
  • Must be pursuing at least a bachelor's level degree in Computer Science or related major.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8/4.0.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills through extracurricular activities or projects.
  • Must be authorized to work in the US on a permanent basis without requiring sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the development and documentation of complex software applications embedded in ophthalmic surgical medical devices.
  • Develop software running on surgical devices to integrate with the cloud-based platform.
  • Participate in all phases of the software lifecycle, including concept development, requirements, design, implementation, and testing.
  • Gain an in-depth understanding of the anatomy, physiology, and pathology of the eye.
