About The Position

Western Digital is seeking an Intern to join the Recording Subsystem (RSS) Development Engineering team in Irvine, CA. In this role, you will contribute to the integration of new components and features into next-generation Hard Disk Drive (HDD) products. You will work alongside experienced engineers to develop, test, and optimize cutting-edge technologies that enhance capacity, yield, and reliability.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Computer Engineering with an expected graduation date between December 2025 and June 2026.
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools such as Excel, Tableau, or similar.
  • Programming experience in Python, R, C, or C++.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of magnetic recording technologies.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Integrate and validate new HDD components and technologies to improve recording system performance.
  • Innovate and develop new techniques to enhance HDD capacity, yield, and reliability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to evaluate and optimize design components.
  • Develop scripts to automate testing and data collection from HDD systems.
  • Support failure analysis efforts to identify root causes of yield issues.
  • Set up and optimize test processes and parameters for improved system performance.
  • Perform data analysis to drive technology improvements.
