About The Position

The Suicide Prevention Coordinator is responsible for implementing and overseeing suicide prevention efforts at a site, regional, and state level. The Suicide Prevention Coordinator provides leadership, supervision, training, and program coordination to enhance client and community suicide prevention efforts in alignment with best practices and organizational goals. The Suicide Prevention Coordinator reports directly to the National Suicide Prevention Coordinator with a dotted line to the Director of Behavioral Health. This role ensures that crisis response strategies, suicide prevention interventions, and outreach initiatives are effectively delivered across assigned U.S.VETS locations. FLSA Classification: Exempt

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Human Services, Social Services, Psychology, or related field other related field preferred. Minimum of four years of relevant employment experience may substitute for degree requirements.
  • Minimum of two years of supervisory experience in related field. Two years of employment at U.S.VETS may substitute for supervisory experience.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of clients, staff, and community members.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Leadership and conflict management skills.
  • Demonstration of personal and financial integrity in the workplace.
  • Ability to take direction, work independently with minimal oversight, prioritize and handle multiple tasks, and to work within a team.
  • Computer proficient in Microsoft Office and Internet.
  • Must have strong presentation skills and possess the ability to interact with small, medium, and large groups.
  • Valid driver’s license required. Must meet company insurance requirements and complete a provided driver training course.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with homeless and/or veteran population preferred.
  • Experience dealing with clients possessing multiple barriers to services preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manages U.S.VETS’ Suicide Prevention Program by providing site-level guidance, support, training, and supervision.
  • Facilitates implementation of suicide prevention strategies at the site level through education, monitoring, and coordinating activities.
  • Ensures crisis management services are provided to veterans in accordance with best practice standards.
  • Provides supervision to Crisis Intervention Counselors, Case Managers, Peer Specialists, and Outreach Specialists at the site who are responsible for implementing the components of the organization’s suicide prevention program.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Behavioral Health and other relevant site leadership for site-specific suicide prevention staff supervision and program operations.
  • Implements applicable areas of the National Suicide Prevention Plan specific to the site under the oversight of Executive Leadership.
  • Ensures staff at the site utilize standardized suicide risk assessment tools to support proper assessment and intervention strategies.
  • Facilitates and coordinates staff suicide prevention certification training or skills- based training to both clinical and non-clinical staff at the site to ensure readiness in responding to veterans during crisis situations.
  • Monitors program performance and evaluates outcomes to enhance site-level suicide prevention strategies.
  • Maintains accurate program data and ensures timely reporting to the National Suicide Prevention Coordinator.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with community agencies, healthcare providers, and veterans' organizations to improve access to mental health and crisis support services at the site level.
  • Helps to identify veterans at high risk for suicide, offers direction to staff regarding delivery of enhanced care to high-risk veterans, and serves as a resource for frontline staff in suicide prevention.
  • Delivers organized, structured, and persuasive presentations that communicate U.S.VETS’ mission, goals, values, and brand.
  • Assesses clients’ need for supportive services and initiates appropriate supportive services.
  • Ensures a detailed case file is maintained on each client and assures that all veteran case files include the appropriate screening and safety data.
  • Meets with clients as needed to assess needs, develops goals, and refer to applicable services.
  • Develops and maintains a database of local area providers, contacting them at least monthly for potential service provision or outreach referral opportunities.
  • Establishes and maintains a site-level suicide prevention resource library with educational materials, risk assessment tools, and intervention guides for staff reference.
  • Conducts regular audits of suicide prevention documentation and protocols to ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.
  • Handles special projects as required.
  • Performs other duties as required.
