Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 3+ years of SUE locating experience preferred
  • Understanding of utility construction methods
  • Knowledge and experience with utility line locating equipment (SUE Designating)
  • Knowledge and experience with ASCE 38-02 SUE Standards
  • Capable of making field decisions without direct supervision
  • Excellent communication skills and a team attitude
  • Ability to read and interpret DOT and municipal plans
  • Sitting and standing for extended periods of time.
  • Physical mobility in and around construction sites, traffic work zones, and other field assignments.
  • Ability to carry SUE equipment and supplies in remote, rural or urban surroundings.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and walk long distances.
  • Walking and climbing on uneven surfaces.
  • Ability to withstand extreme weather conditions
  • Ability to work out of town
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to work in confined spaces with proper training

Responsibilities

  • Identify and map location and depth of utilities such as water, sewer, gas, cable, oil, and electric lines.
  • Document interactions, site information and utilities in organizational software.
  • Communicate with clients, engineers and management.
  • Use a variety of techniques (electrical, magnetic, blueprint analysis, and/or radar) to measure utilities.
  • Determine where underground utilities (such as telephone, gas and power lines) should be placed.
  • May have to unearth utilities with a shovel.
  • Locate underground utilities through nondestructive methods.
  • Record and document the underground utility field data in accordance with CAD standard formats.
  • Must operate and maintain company equipment and vehicles.
  • Research and review utility company records and identify utilities from field observation
  • May use electric power tools, cutting tools and other equipment
