About The Position

ESP Associates has an immediate opportunity for a Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Division Manager to grow and lead our Transportation Business Unit in Texas. As a leader, you will contribute to setting the pace for ESP’s growth in the Texas Transportation market and beyond! You will lead decisions regarding strategy, market penetration, team growth/development, and continuous improvement. The successful candidate will have an outgoing, can-do attitude to grow and develop staff while working closely with other ESP Division Managers, clients, engineers, and sub-consultants to ensure their needs are met. This will include leading business planning, marketing, meeting financial performance goals, and fulfillment of the firm’s strategy, as well as supporting the Transportation Division overall.

Requirements

  • Experience performing business development and maintaining relationships with DOT, as a prime consultant, and local municipality decision makers.
  • 10+ years of experience in SUE with at least 5 years of experience managing SUE crews.
  • Ability to designate all utilities using surface geophysical equipment, including RF Pipe and Cable Locators, Ground Penetrating Radar, and electromagnetic induction devices.
  • Experience operating and maintaining a vacuum excavation truck.
  • Must be able to generate revenue through existing client base and new business development.
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills to effectively and professionally interact with team members, clients, governmental review authorities, government officials, and the public.
  • Demonstrated expertise in adjusting to priorities and demands from multiple clients and projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Firm understanding of risk management and loss prevention.
  • Superior organizational and planning skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Extensive knowledge of survey and mapping principles, practice standards, procedures, and project management.
  • Experience with survey computations and platting using Trimble Business Center, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and ArcGIS, as well as field experience with Trimble Survey field equipment.
  • Candidate must be able to pass a drug screen, background check, and have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the company’s driving (MVR) policy.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Professional Land Surveyors (PLS), preferably in TX, SC, NC, and/or FL, preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and maintains relationships within utilities, private municipalities, and other clients to increase Company exposure and position the Company for SUE contracts.
  • Manage and oversee all aspects of SUE projects and operations, ensuring adherence to project specifications, safety standards, and quality control measures.
  • Assists in preparing and approving proposals and qualifications statements while managing projects, and may assist with the management of plan production.
  • Assist Group Managers with workforce planning, monthly billing, and final review of completed reports and maps.
  • Plan, organize, train, and maintain the SUE equipment, along with supervising crews, technicians, and other staff members.
  • Administer SUE-related contracts and manage projects, interpret, organize, execute, and coordinate assignments.
  • Coordinate Schedules and assign work to meet project completion dates.
  • Plan and develop SUE projects utilizing the expertise necessary to complete unique and challenging projects. This requires the use of current and new technologies to overcome the challenges of projects requiring extraordinary detail. This includes the exploration of the subject area, investigating and developing novel concepts and approaches.
  • Developing and monitoring project scope, budget, schedule, and quality control for SUE projects from the proposal stage through final deliverables.
  • Responsible for the consistent monitoring and safety coordination of all SUE efforts.
  • Manage the division to achieve expected profitability and growth.
