About The Position

As an AOD Counselor (Demonstrator), this position is responsible for providing group and individual sessions and related rehabilitative treatment services to substance abuse students in a residential setting. Provides direct services and related rehabilitative treatment services to substance abuse students in a therapeutic community setting in compliance with state and county rules, directives, and evidence-based practices, with a maximum caseload ratio of one (1) counselor to eighteen (18) participants (1:18). Ratio subject to change.

Requirements

  • Be at least 21 years of age and possess at a minimum a high school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Three (3) years of full-time experience of counseling duties with a criminal justice population in a substance use disorder program.
  • This position requires Security Clearance.
  • Within six (6) months of hire, obtain an AOD Certification by an accredited certifying organization.
  • First Aid and CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) certification AND pass a physical examination and tuberculosis test from a health professional.
  • Qualified and trained to recognize the symptoms and signs of substance use disorders and have the ability to respond to drug overdose and provide documentation used to meet this requirement within thirty (30) calendar days of hire.
  • Within 30 days of hire, personnel file shall document evidence of participation in the following trainings that support the knowledge and skills necessary for LACTC: Training on LACTC requirements and use of any data systems.
  • Within 90 days of hire, personnel file shall document evidence of participation in the following trainings that support the knowledge and skills necessary for LACTC.
  • The first year of employment includes forty (40) hours of applicable orientation and training, including, but not limited to: Employee Orientation CPR Certification, First Aid Certification and an annual Tuberculosis (TB) test Motivational Interviewing Sexual Harassment Prevention Emergency Procedures Confidentiality (Title 42 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 2) Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (Title 45 CFR Part 164) Signed acknowledgement of Drug Free Workplace policy
  • This position shall include forty (40) hours of in-service training annually, with documentation of training maintained in the personnel file.
  • Participate in other training as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Refer to the Clinical Supervisor issues that are not resolved at the Counselor (Demonstrator) level.
  • Coordinate with the Clinical Supervisor and on-site ARC/Operation Flame staff on matters related to medical, disciplinary, and program progress.
  • Notify the Clinical Supervisor and ARC (Anti-Recidivism Coalition) on-site staff of any problems/issues involving with any program.
  • Make decisions regarding caseloads.
  • Conduct and participate in case conferences for each participant assigned to the caseload.
  • Provide services to caseload participants as described in the Agreement.
  • Participate in the screening participants as required.
  • Conduct initial interviews of participants assigned to the caseload.
  • Prepare an Initial Needs Assessment for each participant.
  • Consider each participant’s (student’s) physical, mental, emotional, and social service needs, including skills and literacy level, and substance use disorder status and needs.
  • Prepare a detailed specific services/treatment plan on each participant on his/her caseload.
  • Review and sign each services/treatment plan with clinician to indicate approval. (If required)
  • Update the participant’s (student’s) Treatment plan at the monthly case conferences.
  • Conduct individual, small group, and large group counseling sessions as required.
  • Review the Student (participant) treatment plan with the Clinician.
  • Prepare evaluation/transition plans thirty (30) days prior to the student’s (participant’s) completion from the Los Angeles County Training Center.
  • Serve as a member of Advocate (Casework) Team.
  • Assist the participant (student) in completing non-work/education related passes when needed.
  • Provide input for participant’s (student’s) pass request to attend an event.
  • Track and collect participant’s (student’s) paychecks for savings purposes. (If required)
  • Participate in community building activities, as appropriate to position.
  • Administer First Aid and CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) during emergencies in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Conduct and practice emergency evacuation procedures.
  • Assist in maintaining facility and equipment clean, orderly and proper working condition.
  • Attend and participate in Amity community building functions.
  • Actively develop and build upon creative and technical knowledge of TC program activities.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
