About The Position

The Substance Use Disorder Clinician is responsible for conducting ASAM assessments, developing treatment plans, and providing individual, family, and group substance use disorder treatment services. These services are provided across Vista Del Mar’s continuum of care, including residential, educational, and community-based settings. The Substance Use Disorder Clinician works collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team supporting the agency’s behavioral health programs and contracted services.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Behavioral Science, Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related field
  • Current California license (LCSW, LMFT, LPCC, PsyD) OR active BBS Associate registration (ACSW, AMFT, APCC) in good standing.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience with youth, young adults, and/or substance use disorders (SUD)
  • Understanding of adolescent/young adult development and behavioral health needs
  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record and ability to operate an agency vehicle
  • Current SUD counseling certification (or ability to obtain, if applicable)

Responsibilities

  • Conduct ASAM assessments and partner with youth to develop individualized, strengths-based treatment plans
  • Provide individual, group, and family therapy across outpatient, educational, and residential settings
  • Serve as a primary clinician, coordinating care with multidisciplinary team members, caregivers, schools, and community partners
  • Support adolescents and young adults with substance use and co-occurring needs using evidence-based practices (Motivational Interviewing, harm reduction, trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and LGBTQIA+-affirming approaches)
  • Facilitate and co-facilitate therapeutic and psychoeducational groups
  • Participate in case conferences, team meetings, and collaborative care planning
  • Complete timely, accurate clinical documentation in accordance with program and regulatory standards
  • Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation support when needed
  • Advocate for youth while fulfilling California Mandated Reporter responsibilities
  • Build strong therapeutic relationships with youth and maintain professional, collaborative partnerships with families, colleagues, and stakeholders
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development (including CPR/First Aid, CPI, and required annual clinical training)
