Langan is seeking a Subsurface Utility Locator / Staff Surveyor to join its collaborative team in Cleveland, OH. This role is essential for gathering field data, reducing field data, and preparing survey plans and CAD deliverables. The position supports various projects, including commercial and residential developments, in a technologically advanced environment.

  • Perform electromagnetic and ground-penetrating radar (GPR) surveys to detect and map underground utilities.
  • Accurately mark utility locations in accordance with project requirements and industry standards.
  • Collect field data for preparation of surveys using surveying equipment and software.
  • Conduct research for survey projects, including deed, utility, roadway, and subdivision map research.
  • Effectively use reports, maps, drawings, engineering plans, and aerial photographs to assess project needs and assist in project approach.
  • Assist in recovery of survey control and monumentation, construction layout, obtaining invert and subsurface utility information, and photo documentation of the project area.
  • Recommend new approaches and ideas that continuously improve efficiency and services performed.
  • Stay informed about relevant regulations, industry standards, and best practices.
  • Actively participate in internal Health and Safety training and demonstrate a strong commitment to Health and Safety in the workplace and field.
  • Perform other duties as requested.
  • High School diploma or higher required; Bachelor's degree in Surveying preferred.
  • 3+ years of subsurface utility locating experience in topographic, boundary, utility survey, construction layout, GPS.
  • Familiarity with Subsurface Utility locating principles and practices for the standard SUE Levels B, C, and D utility locating and mapping.
  • AutoCAD required; Carlson and Leica processing software experience a plus.
  • Familiarity with current local, state, and surveying regulations.
  • Strong CAD and computer skills (Word, Excel, AutoCAD, Carlson, etc.).
  • Proficient mathematical ability.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task effectively.
  • Excellent analytical and judgment capabilities.
  • Excellent speaking, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment.
  • Possess reliable transportation for client meetings and job site visits and a valid driver's license in good standing.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Carlson software.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and surveying regulations.
