About The Position

The Van Driver position is responsible for safely transporting students within the Toledo School District. The driver must adhere to all transportation office policies and procedures, as well as state and federal regulations. This role requires effective communication with students, staff, and parents, and a commitment to maintaining a safe and supportive environment for all passengers.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 21 years of age.
  • Hold a valid Washington State driver's license.
  • Submit a current driver's abstract for the past 5 years.
  • Meet the physical and mental standards necessary to perform the duties.
  • Be certified in first aid/CPR.
  • Complete an annual disclosure statement.
  • Pass F.B.I. and Washington State Patrol Criminal Record Checks.
  • Complete the SafeSchools Training videos.

  • Willingness to receive periodic retraining and updating of driving skills.
  • Willingness to drive a van in any type of weather.
  • Willingness to perform cleaning and upkeep on the vans.
  • Knowledge of safety standards, laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures relating to pupil transportation.

Responsibilities

  • Proficiently operate vans in the Toledo School District.
  • Operate vans in a safe and prudent manner.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, district staff, parents, and community members.
  • Inspect the assigned van daily prior to each operation in accordance with state and district regulations.
  • Maintain discipline on the van consistent with district policies.
  • Support the learning program and contribute to the growth and development of students.
  • Maintain and submit daily van logs and complete all required forms and reports.
  • Report any mechanical defects and safety hazards immediately.
  • Clean the interior and exterior of the vehicle according to department procedures.
  • Operate and maintain district vehicles and equipment as required.
  • Maintain appropriate physical condition, health status, appearance, and attitude necessary to perform duties.
  • Obtain and maintain all licenses and certificates necessary for the role.
  • Comply with district safety rules and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Wash/vacuum vehicles.
  • Answer phones and radio.
