The Substitute Teacher position at Ysleta Independent School District (YISD) is designed for individuals who are prepared to step into the classroom in the absence of the regular teacher. This role requires adherence to federal and state laws, as well as district policies and procedures, ensuring that the educational environment remains consistent and productive for students. The Substitute Teacher will be responsible for providing instruction based on the lesson plans left by the classroom teacher, maintaining classroom discipline, and ensuring the safety and well-being of students throughout the school day. Upon arrival at the assigned campus, the Substitute Teacher will check in with the campus administrator or site coordinator and will be provided with a job number through the computerized sub-finder system. It is essential for the Substitute Teacher to comply with campus attendance and discipline procedures, as well as to monitor student activities both inside and outside the classroom, including during lunch and assigned duties. The role also involves assisting students with their basic physical needs and providing necessary instructional modifications and behavior management as required. Record-keeping is a critical component of this position, as the Substitute Teacher will be expected to document student progress and activities daily and at the conclusion of the assignment. Participation in professional development activities is also required to ensure that the Substitute Teacher remains informed about district policies and educational best practices. Maintaining a professional code of ethics is paramount, and the Substitute Teacher may be assigned additional duties as needed.
