About The Position

A Substitute Teacher supervises students in the event that their regular teacher is unable to lead class. Duties include managing classroom behavior, quickly interpreting lesson plans and creating reports to inform the students' permanent teacher of their success.

Requirements

• Holders of an instructional Certificate of Eligibility (CE), Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS), a standard instructional certificate, or an administrative or educational services certificate shall not be required to obtain a substitute credential before serving as a substitute teacher
• Substitute Credential
• Completion of 30 semester-hour credits at an accredited college or university
• Criminal History Record Check: approval date must be within five months of the application date with 'Substitute Teacher' as the job position.

Responsibilities

• Follows lesson plans provided by the regular Teacher to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for students
• Manages the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions and maintain a positive learning environment
• Adapts teaching methods to fit the needs of each individual student
• Supervises students in and out of the classroom, including in the halls, on the playground and in the cafeteria
• Provides in-class and at-home assignments based on the available lesson plan
• For long-term substitutes: develops lesson plans and assignments consistent with the regular teacher's past lesson plans
