SUMMARY: Substitute Teachers perform the instructional and classroom management processes for teachers who are absent for a day or longer periods. Their duties include taking attendance, explaining homework, maintaining classroom cleanliness, and reinforcing school-wide discipline procedures. Requirements

Colorado Substitute Teaching Authorization (three or five years) or a Colorado teaching license. One year substitute authorizations will be considered on a case by case basis
4 year degree for non-licensed candidates
Fingerprints and Background Checks will be required for non-licensed
Experience in working with school age children preferred.
Criminal background check required for hire.
Demonstrated skill in handling children.
Ability to diffuse and manage stressful situations.
Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment, and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator
Ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies, Authorizer policies and building and department procedures.
Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds.
Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers and peripherals.
Operating knowledge of information technology systems and any other department specific software and equipment required within 2 months after entering position.

Responsibilities

Punctual and adhere to the classroom schedule
Maintain order in the classroom
Follow teacher’s lesson plans in sequence and fulfill all of the responsibilities as stated.
Supervise the students assigned to the regular classroom teacher at all times.
Be available to fill in during open planning times for other teachers
Minimum of 5 assignments within a six month period or employment
