Educare of Omaha, Inc. is a non-profit organization that has a collaborative partnership between Early Head Start/Head Start, Omaha Public Schools and the Buffett Early Childhood Fund. Comprised of the two Educare Omaha Schools (Kellom and Indian Hill) and three Early Learning Centers (Skinner, Gateway and Kennedy), the mission of Educare of Omaha, Inc. is to promote school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children ages 0 to 5 through the provision of evidence-based education, health, nutritional, social, family engagement and other services to enrolled children and their families. The Substitute Teacher plays an essential role in the classroom by providing educational, social, and emotional development for all students by following the program standards of Educare of Omaha, Early Head Start, Sixpence, Nebraska Department of Education, and NAEYC. The Substitute Teacher enhances student learning during the period of absence of the regular classroom teacher. The Substitute Teacher is responsible for maintaining the program’s educational requirement as well as meeting the children’s individual needs. Two Substitute Opportunities Available 🟢 Tier 1 – Center-Based On-Call Floater Flexible, on-call schedule (up to 3 shifts per week) Assigned to one Educare school (Kellom, Indian Hill, Skinner, Gateway, or Kennedy) Provide classroom coverage for daily absences, planning blocks, or short-term needs Great fit for candidates seeking flexibility and experience in early childhood settings 🔵 Tier 2 – Vacancy Coverage Pool Provide a set schedule bi-weekly Provide consistent support in a set classroom to one Educare school where there is an ongoing vacancy Float across Educare sites as needed Help maintain continuity of care and instruction for children and families

Requirements

  • A minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be able to pass a background check that meets compliance standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in education (Early Childhood preferred) preferred.
  • An Active CDA, or willingness to obtain (if working 30 hours or more weekly)
  • Two years early childhood experience in a group setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Follow all policies, rules, and procedures to which teachers are subject and which good teaching practice dictates.
  • Proficiency in maintaining efficient classroom management.
  • Take necessary and reasonable actions to ensure the safety of children, materials, and center equipment.
  • Ensure a sustainable relationship with parents, pupils, school personnel, and members of the public by communicating in a confidential, polite, and refined manner.
  • Ability to comply with written and oral instructions.
