About The Position

The Goodwill Excel Center Adult High School is seeking a Substitute Teacher for its Billy Moore Campus in Overton, TX. The Goodwill Excel Center is Texas's first free, public charter high school for adults aged 18-50, offering opportunities to earn a high school diploma, complete professional certifications, and begin postsecondary education. The charter district has seven campuses, with five located within correctional facilities across the state. This specific Substitute position is for a campus within a Correctional Facility. The Substitute High School Teacher is responsible for providing and implementing daily lesson plans in assigned courses according to district requirements. They will manage the classroom environment, provide activities and materials, and promote student learning in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. Applicants must pass background checks and complete fingerprinting for The Excel Center, as well as additional background checks and training required by MTC and TDCJ.

Requirements

• A minimum of 60+ college credit hours, Bachelor’s or higher degree from an accredited university is required
• Submit proof of an official accredited college transcript (showing the degree conferred or the minimum of 60+ college hours) OR a valid Texas Teacher Certificate from the Texas Education Agency (TEA)
• General knowledge of possible assigned subject areas
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
• General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
• Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior in a correctional facility setting
• Ability to follow oral and written directions
• Ability to maintain effective classroom management strategies
• Must be able to understand work instructions in English
• Must possess the essential mindset that all students can achieve at high levels
• Must possess understanding of marginalization and how it impacts those Goodwill serves and employs
• Must be able to successfully pass a background check and complete fingerprinting requirement for The Excel Center
• Must be able to pass the background check and additional training required by MTC and TDCJ
