About The Position

The Wethersfield Public Schools partners with the community and families in fostering our students' ongoing education in a safe and engaging learning environment. Our schools are demographically diverse and are characterized by respectful behavior, trusting relationships, caring educators/administrators/staff and continuous learning. The Wethersfield High School has an opening for a Long-Term Substitute Chemistry teacher. In this role, the teacher will stimulate the independence of each student as a learner, effectively assess student needs and progress, and will plan instruction to achieve desired objectives (including those appropriate for exceptional learners). The teacher will accomplish these objectives through effective communication with students, parents and colleagues, and through the use of engaging techniques and materials in a positive climate.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree is preferred, but not required
  • Position requires the appropriate CT Certification in Chemistry (031)
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form
  • Ability to meet deadlines with time constraints
  • Ability to handle and treat information confidentially
  • Ability to plan and organize work schedule and set priorities
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Create lesson plans aligned to appropriate state and national standards, and deliver instructional activities consistent with the targeted learning
  • Create, organize and utilize unique learning activities and experiential exercises designed to enhance classroom teaching and to support the students' optimal learning and development of new skills
  • Encourage student learning through peer collaboration and productive discussion
  • Guide students, individually and in groups, in preparing for different types of assessments
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the development and utilization of unit lessons and learning assessments
  • Provide individualized student mentoring
  • Assist in the selection of instructional materials, equipment, and classroom supplies
  • Provide on-going feedback to students through the use of formative assessments.
