About The Position

Children's Choice Learning Centers, a trusted early education program with multiple locations across San Diego County, is seeking reliable and caring Substitute (Floating) Teachers to provide classroom coverage for Infant, Toddler, Preschool, and School-Age programs on an as-needed basis. This position may also assist as a Teacher's Aide when needed. Floating Teachers help maintain a nurturing, safe, and developmentally appropriate environment while supporting the regular teaching staff and ensuring compliance with licensing and company policies. The ideal candidate is patient, professional, and adaptable-comfortable stepping into any classroom and providing consistent, high-quality care and supervision.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Completion of at least 12 Early Childhood Education (ECE) units, including: - Child Development - Child, Family & Community - Infant & Toddler - One additional course (e.g., Program & Curriculum, Child Health & Safety, etc.)
  • Minimum of 6 months experience in a licensed child care center (Infant, Toddler, Preschool, or School-Age).
  • Must pass DSS background check and provide proof of current immunizations (MMR, Tdap, Influenza) and TB clearance.
  • Current Pediatric CPR / First Aid and Mandated Reporter certificates (required or willing to obtain).
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to work at different Children's Choice locations as needed.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and work at a child's level (sitting, kneeling, bending).
  • Able to stand for extended periods and adapt to varied classroom environments.
  • Occasional after-hours training or meetings as required.

Responsibilities

  • Support classroom staff in implementing daily routines and age-appropriate activities.
  • Supervise and engage with children in a warm, positive, and safe manner at all times.
  • Assist with diapering, feeding, toileting, and nap supervision as needed (Infant/Toddler rooms).
  • Follow lesson plans or classroom schedules provided by the lead teacher or director.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment in accordance with licensing and company standards.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, children, and families to support continuity of care.
  • Uphold company values of teamwork, reliability, and respect across all centers.
