About The Position

The position of Substitute Teacher Associate involves working under the supervision of a classroom or special education teacher, performing a variety of tasks throughout the school day. Responsibilities include working with students, transporting them, supervising them during recess and meals, instructing small groups, and implementing behavior plans. The role requires flexibility as tasks may change daily based on the needs of the students and the direction of the supervising teacher or principal.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Iowa teaching certificate, substitute certification, or documentation showing pending certification from the Board of Education Examiners.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with children in an educational setting.
  • Training certification in Bloodborne Pathogens, FERPA, Mandatory Reporter, Suicide Prevention, Bullying/Harassment Prevention, and Title IX.

Responsibilities

  • Riding in a school vehicle to transport a student to/from school.
  • Accompanying individual student(s) to each recess and/or breakfast and lunch.
  • Instructing individual or small groups of students under the supervision and planning of a teacher.
  • Accompanying students to special classes (art, music, PE) and on field trips.
  • Implementing and monitoring student behavior plans under the supervision of a classroom or special education teacher.
  • Supervising a classroom for a short period of time under the supervision of another teacher or the building principal.
  • Before and after school supervision of students.
  • Performing clerical tasks for teachers, including preparing materials for lessons, helping with bulletin boards, checking papers, and laminating.
