MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: To provide substitute teaching for classroom teachers and teacher assistants as needed when teachers are unavailable, following developmentally appropriate standards. The Substitute Teacher Assistant works with the Head Teacher, Teacher Assistant, and Co-Teacher providing classroom instruction and activities. They follow the daily activity plan and prepare educational materials and special projects. They help with self-care routines, small and large group activities, supervise children at all times by sight, sound, and the ability to intervene at a moment’s notice. The Substitute Teacher Assistant will read the sub folder in each classroom to ensure the classroom routine and safety protocols are followed. CLASSROOM MAINTENANCE: Will maintain educational supplies and art materials, monitor equipment, and cooperate with the Teacher/Teacher Assistant/Co-Teacher to maintain an orderly classroom environment. This includes assisting children at mealtime and activity time. Must complete a minimum of two after program hours childcare shifts for family events per school year. May include Head Start Bus Monitor shifts in supervision of children being transported to or from the program as well as fieldtrips. May be scheduled to fill long term Special Accommodations Grant 1:1 need or a regular education staff leave of absence In addition to the above, performs other duties
