Our Head Start programs accept applications for Substitute Teacher Assistants year-round. As Substitute Teacher Assistant, you will support the classroom Teacher by assisting with daily scheduled activities in the absence or support of regular staff. You will help maintain a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for children by: Responding to requests to fill in for classroom openings as availability allows, helping to ensure consistent classroom coverage and support, Supervising children in all program related activities, and Assisting center staff in observation and documentation of the children’s development and behavior in order to ensure planning is individualized. Westmoreland Community Action is a non-profit organization that works to connect individuals and families to opportunities and resources throughout the community to improve their quality of life and help to reduce poverty in the community. This is accomplished through housing, counseling, support, education, intervention, collaborations, partnerships, information, referrals, and networking. Head Start serves children, ages 3-5, and their families in both center and home-based program options. This program provides pre-Kindergarten learning experiences for young children to help prepare them for a smooth transition into Kindergarten. The overall goal is to promote school readiness.
