About The Position

The Substitute Teacher Aide/Monitor position at Massillon City Schools involves ensuring the safety of students and assisting them with their classwork in various capacities. The role includes working with students both individually and in small groups, playing learning games, and assisting with programmed materials. Responsibilities also encompass supervising recess, restroom breaks, and make-up work for absent students. The aide will promote good social relationships among children, grade papers, distribute communications, and assist with toiletry needs as necessary. The position requires maintaining confidentiality regarding student records and interacting positively with staff, students, and parents. The aide will serve as a role model for students, instilling ethical principles and democratic values, and may assist in the school office, chaperone field trips, and perform other duties as assigned by the teacher or principal.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) - proof required
  • Must hold a valid Ohio Teacher's Aide Certificate/Permit (Teacher Aide, Monitor) with fingerprinting for Criminal History Report
  • Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate

  • Serve as a role model for students
  • Instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values
  • Assist in the school office as needed
  • Assist with special school projects
  • Chaperone field trips
  • Make school-related telephone calls for teacher
  • Administer first aid to children as necessary
  • Perform correspondence, including reports and other correspondence as required
  • Supervise general housekeeping duties
  • Respond to routine questions and requests in an appropriate manner
  • Interact with classroom teachers and administrators
  • Instruct students on rules and consequences of study hall
  • Monitor hall during change of class
  • Monitor students in study hall
  • Take student attendance in study hall
  • Assist students, as needed, in study hall
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the teacher, office staff, or Principal/Designee
