About The Position

In the absence of the school nurse, provide assistance to students and staff for routine and non-routine medical situations that are within standard licensing practices. Performs intermediate paraprofessional work ensuring the health of students in schools; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
• Some experience in community health, emergency or pediatric nursing
• First Aid/ CPR, AED certified and maintain current certifications
• Relevant Virginia licensure (LPN, RN, EMT, Paramedic)

Responsibilities

• Providing nursing care to students
• Maintaining the school clinic
• Maintaining student and clinic records in the absence of the regular school nurse
• Performing health care services and assessments of students and staff sent to the clinic
• Keeping logs of visits and care given
• Making observations and assessing condition
• Implementing health care plan for each student examined
• Contacting and counseling with student, parents and/or teachers about problems observed, as needed
• Administering medications and first aid
• Performing specialized medical procedures in accordance with physician orders
• Performing related tasks as required
