The School Nurse is responsible for implementing a comprehensive program of health services for assigned campus(es). This role includes providing health services to students and promoting health education and preventive health practices. Additionally, substitute teachers are required to complete a daily report or evaluation to communicate any pertinent information resulting from the day's events.

  • Provide health services to students
  • Promote health education and preventive health practices
  • Complete daily reports or evaluations as a substitute teacher
  • High School diploma
  • Valid registered nurse or vocational nurse license to practice professional nursing in Texas from the State Board of Nurse Examiners preferred
  • Certified by Texas Department of Health to conduct vision and hearing screening preferred
  • CPR Certification preferred
  • Knowledge of health appraisal to identify student health defects
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to implement policies and procedures
  • Medical experience, preferably in community health or school organization
  • Annual substitute training at the start of each school year
  • Substitute Teacher pay scale
  • Work schedule dependent upon school nurse absences
