ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Student Care and Support: Demonstrates a positive and caring attitude toward students. Provides nursing tasks as directed by the district nurse, including but not limited to: Administering medications and insulin. Performing medical treatments such as G-tube feedings, clean intermittent catheterization, blood glucose testing, and peak flow readings. Delivers first aid and emergency care for students, staff, and visitors, including initial assessments, illness/injury care based on the Department of Health's "Guidelines for Illness and Injury at School," parent notifications, and contacting 911 when necessary. Individualized Health Plans: Contributes to the development, implementation, and evaluation of student-specific plans, including emergency care plans, Individual Health Plans (IHPs), Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and 504 plans. Health Records and Immunizations: Reviews and monitors immunization records and collaborates with staff responsible for entering immunization data into the electronic student record system. Initiates, updates, and maintains confidential student health records in compliance with applicable regulations. Screening and Follow-Up: Participates in mandated health screenings (e.g., vision and hearing), including re-screening, parent contacts, referrals, and follow-ups as required. Resource Coordination: Maintains a current directory of community health services and resources. Refers parents and families to appropriate resources when necessary. Professional Practices and Collaboration: Models and promotes nondiscriminatory practices in all interactions and activities. Communicates effectively with students, parents, staff, and administrators to foster collaboration and meet health-related needs. Performs other duties as required or assigned by the administration to support the school's mission and operations. Physical Requirements: Must possess sensory abilities necessary to effectively communicate and interact with students, parents, and staff (e.g., visual acuity, hearing, and tactile awareness). Requires significant physical activity, including walking, bending, standing, and stooping. May involve physical intervention, including lifting or moving students or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, positioning students in specialized equipment, or assisting with personal hygiene tasks such as diapering or changing clothing when needed. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Licensure and Certification: Possess and maintain a current Washington State Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license. Valid CPR and First Aid certification. Driver's License and Insurance: Hold a valid driver's license and provide evidence of insurability. Professional Knowledge and Skills: Comprehensive understanding of the Nurse Practice Act. Demonstrated competence in general nursing practices, including but not limited to: Diabetic care management. Tube feeding. Urinary catheterization. Basic tracheostomy care. Universal precautions, blood containment, and proper sharps disposal. Technical Proficiency: Proficient in operating computers and using word processing software. Ability to learn and effectively use the school district's database, as well as state-required websites and databases. Capable of maintaining accurate electronic and paper medical records. Background Clearance: Successfully pass state and national background checks through fingerprinting. Experience: Prior experience working with children of various ages who are medically fragile, medically complex, or have specific health concerns. Interpersonal and Professional Attributes: Strong verbal and written communication skills. Dependable, flexible, and demonstrates a strong record of attendance. Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information in accordance with federal and state regulations and district policies.
