About The Position

Under the direction of a supervisor or designated teacher, performs a variety of assignments related to the instruction, supervision, and monitoring of students. May function in an instructional setting separate from the teacher without much supervision.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Enrollment in Oregon’s Child Care Central Background Registry (CBR).
  • Reasonable knowledge of spelling, punctuation, capitalization, word usage, and sentence construction of the English language.
  • Reasonable knowledge of office practices and procedures.
  • Successful completion of criminal history records check, as required by law.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, active, and changing environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual applicants are desired, but not required.
  • CPR certification and Food Handlers Card are preferred, but are not required.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of a supervisor or designated teacher, facilitate small group activities and assist with large group activities.
  • Prepare learning materials as dictated by prescribed education or lesson plans, exercising some judgment in the selection and use of materials within established guidelines.
  • Assist in setting up, organizing, and maintaining the learning environment, materials, and supplies.
  • Support designated teachers with record-keeping, copying, and filing. Assist in assessing student progress by collecting data as directed by teachers or supervisors.
  • Directly interact with students in respectful and positive ways, demonstrating enthusiasm and flexibility while being mindful of individual student needs.
  • Assist designated teachers with integrating developmental goals outlined in Oregon’s Early Learning and Kindergarten Guidelines through daily routines and learning opportunities.
  • In collaboration with other staff, use proactive strategies to prevent challenging behaviors, address unexpected behaviors with empathy when they arise, and support in the development of social-emotional skills. Personally resolve minor concerns, inform teacher of major issues.
  • Instruct students with a variety of learning and developmental needs.
