About The Position

The Substitute/Part-Time Juvenile Supervision Officer is responsible for providing a safe and secure environment for juveniles detained in the Juvenile Detention Center. This role involves supervising the activities of juveniles, ensuring their educational, emotional, recreational, and basic childcare needs are met. The officer will also oversee family visitations and document the behavior and adaptation of juveniles in a secure setting. This position is part-time and operates on an as-needed basis, with no guarantee of continued employment or benefits.

Requirements

• Must have earned Ninety (90) college semester hours from an accredited university.
• Possess a valid Driver License and proof of automobile liability insurance.
• Must obtain Texas Juvenile Supervision Officer certification within six (6) months of hire.
• Must have First Aid, CPR, and Non-Violent Restraint certifications with annual renewal.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe, secure, and positive environment for juveniles.
• Supervise the educational, emotional, recreational, disciplinary, and basic needs of detainees.
• Provide individual and group counseling for detainees.
• Discipline detainees who violate rules and may restrain youth when necessary.
• Intervene in aggressive and self-injurious behaviors using crisis intervention and physical restraint when needed.
• Supervise personal grooming, hygiene, and housekeeping tasks of detained youth.
• Maintain security of residents and facility through regular accounting and searches for contraband.
• Conduct facility-wide and personal searches for contraband.
• Document juveniles' behavior and adaptation to the environment.
