About The Position

The Substitute Paraeducator position involves working under the direction of a certified teacher to assist students on a one-to-one basis or in small groups. The role includes maintaining materials, equipment, and records for students, as well as reinforcing instruction as directed by the teacher. This position is district-wide and requires participation in various classroom activities and support for students with special needs.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Warm and supportive personality with the ability to relate to special needs children.
• Ability to respect the rights of all students and maintain confidentiality.
• Prior experience working in a school or adolescence setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparing the classroom for the beginning and ending of the school year.
• Maintain the daily classroom environment, including cleaning up when necessary, setting up learning centers, and preparing materials for lessons.
• Reinforce skills taught in daily lessons.
• Maintain behavior modification plans and schedules.
• Assist in teacher-prepared group lessons and individual child seat work or specialized program instruction.
• Assist in art, music, physical education, and other special area classes when appropriate.
• Participate in all classroom activities, including field trips, recess, lunchroom, and playground supervision.
• Assist with the physical needs of all children, including toileting, diapering, feeding, and dressing.
• Participate in Planning and Placement Team (PPT) or Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings when required.
• Perform transportation-related duties, such as assisting students on and off buses and ensuring their safety during transport.
• Attend staff meetings, department meetings, report card conferences, and faculty meetings as required.
• Attend in-service professional development when required.
