About The Position

The Substitute Paraeducator assists certified teachers in providing instruction to individual or small groups of students, particularly those with exceptional needs. This role involves monitoring student progress, participating in various school activities, and ensuring the health and safety of students. The position is temporary and part-time, requiring effective communication and interpersonal skills to support students and collaborate with teachers.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED Certificate.
• Experience working with youth in an organized setting.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Knowledge of basic subjects taught in District schools, including arithmetic, grammar, and reading.

Responsibilities

• Assist a certified teacher in providing instruction to individual or small groups of students.
• Monitor and report student progress.
• Participate in meetings and in-service training programs as assigned.
• Direct group activities of students and assist in monitoring lunchroom and playground activities.
• Contact parents of students who are absent and make home visits as necessary.
• Confer with teachers concerning programs and materials to meet student needs.
• Assist students with physical tasks such as putting on and taking off outerwear and using the lavatory.
• Provide support to the teacher by setting up work areas and operating educational equipment.
• Perform routine clerical duties such as preparation of instructional materials and maintaining attendance records.
• Monitor and report behavior of students according to approved procedures.
• Assist in administering diagnostic tests and score test information.
• Prepare and organize lessons as directed by the teacher.
• Tutor individuals or small groups of students, reinforcing instruction as directed by the teacher.

Benefits
